What is an Engineer ?

Form 5:

  • Do all the maths and physics calculations
  • It's a cool occupation
  • Can earn a lot of $$$

University:

  • Almost everything around us is built by engineers
  • Consist of subjects that make my head burst
  • Study almost EVERYTHING
    • From fluid to solid structures
    • From temperature to pressure
    • Workshop to Computer Design
    • AND I THOUGHT MECHANICAL ENGINEERS ARE SUPERMAN, THEY MUST KNOW EVERYTHING !!!
  • Wat we learned has no practical use in our working days?

Practical (Mechanical Maintainance Department) :

  • Dirty working environment
  • Dangerous working environment:
    • 20 tons of steel coil hanging just 2 meters above
    • Exposure to Hydrocloric Acid
    • Exposure to Alkaline (More corrosive than Acid)
    • Heating temperature as high as 500 °C
    • Overhead cranes moving everywhere, always look above when traveling within the factory
  • 8 am to 530 pm working hours, with 1 hour lunch break
  • 24-hour On Call, means u have to come for work at 3 am in the morning if there's any machine breakdown
  • Solve any problems regarding the machines
  • Replacing a spare part is complicated:
    • Must find the lowest supplier that provides the same spare part
    • Must work within the given budget, overbudget will led you to the manager room
    • If a spare part is not available, design and fabrication is required
  • WE USE THE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM UNIVERSITY (maybe for Maintainance Dept only)
